Mark W. Guthner, CFA®

Mark W. Guthner is a 30+ year veteran of the financial services industry. His skills and experience stretch across multiple disciplines including trading, securities analysis, portfolio and risk management, and financial technology as well. He has research interests in FinTech and cryptocurrencies.

Mark currently serves as a Professor of Financial Practice at the Rutgers Business School in Piscataway, New Jersey. He teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in Corporate Finance, Investment Analysis, Fixed Income, Valuation, Portfolio Management and Risk Management for Financial Institutions.

In 2012, Mark authored Quantitative Methods in Debt Valuation & Management; published by McGraw-Hill. The book describes a breakthrough method for the analysis, pricing, and hedging of corporate debt obligations.

Mark is also the coauthor of The Options Edge published by John Wiley and Sons. The book instructs professional, and self-directed investors in the finer points of trading and hedging using exchange listed options.

Mark was previously a Principal, Portfolio Manager and Equity Derivative Strategist at Bank of America, CRT Capital Group LLC and Dash Financial. He has also held senior investment banking and risk management positions at the Australian New Zealand Investment Bank Group.

He began his career at Prudential Fixed Income Advisors and Hongkong Shanghai Banking Corporation where he was a Senior Portfolio Manager and Bond Trader. In addition, he served as a Senior Consultant with KPMG/Barents LLC where he developed the investment operations and trained the staff of Indonesia’s oldest and largest insurance company.

He is a sought-after speaker at conferences where he shares his thoughts on various investment subjects and cryptocurrencies. Mark shares his insights through public speaking engagements and social media venues like Twitter (@MGuthner). He holds a BSE in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA in Finance from the University of Michigan, Stephen M. Ross School of Business.

Mark volunteers his time and expertise in various capacities with the CFA Institute and lives in New York with his wife.
